Editorial Policy

Last updated: March 28, 2026

1. Editorial Independence

A News Time maintains full editorial independence. Our newsroom operates with complete separation from our business, advertising, and commercial teams. No advertiser, sponsor, investor, or commercial partner has any influence over what we publish, how we frame stories, or what editorial decisions we make.

Editorial leadership reports directly to the Editor-in-Chief, who has final authority on all editorial matters. Business considerations never override editorial judgement. Where a potential conflict between editorial and commercial interests arises, editorial integrity always takes precedence.

2. Content Standards and Quality

All content published on A News Time must meet the following standards:

  • Accuracy: All facts, figures, claims, and attributions must be verified before publication. Writers must be able to point to the source of every factual claim in their work.
  • Originality: Content must be original work. Plagiarism, including close paraphrasing without attribution, is a serious breach of our standards and grounds for immediate termination.
  • Headlines: Headlines must accurately represent the content and conclusions of the article. We do not use misleading, exaggerated, or clickbait headlines. Sub-headlines and social media copy are held to the same standard.
  • Sources: Articles should cite sources where appropriate. Direct quotes must be accurate and attributed. Where information comes from documents, data sets, or studies, these should be linked or referenced.
  • Distinction of content types: Readers should always be clear about whether they are reading news, analysis, opinion, review, or sponsored content. Each content type is labelled in a consistent, visible way.

3. Fact-Checking Process

Our fact-checking process is integrated into the editorial workflow at every stage:

  • Writer responsibility: Every writer is responsible for the accuracy of their work and must verify all facts before submission. Writers must retain access to their source material and be able to provide it if challenged.
  • Editorial review: All articles undergo editorial review before publication. Editors check factual claims, assess the strength of sourcing, verify quotes, and ensure the article meets our quality standards.
  • Specialist review: For technical or specialised topics (science, technology, health, finance), articles may be reviewed by subject-matter editors or expert contributors who can assess the accuracy of technical claims.
  • Post-publication monitoring: We monitor reader feedback, social media, and expert responses after publication. If credible challenges to accuracy are raised, we investigate and correct promptly.

4. AI-Assisted Content

A News Time uses artificial intelligence tools to assist in various stages of the content creation process. Our AI policy is based on the following principles:

  • Human oversight: All AI-assisted content undergoes full human editorial review for accuracy, tone, quality, originality, and adherence to our editorial standards before publication. An AI tool never has the final say on what gets published.
  • Transparency: We are open about our use of AI tools. Where AI has played a significant role in content creation, this is disclosed to readers.
  • Accountability: A human editor is accountable for every piece of content we publish, regardless of whether AI tools were involved in its creation. The use of AI does not diminish our editorial responsibility.
  • Fact-checking AI output: We treat all AI-generated claims as unverified until confirmed through independent sources. AI models can produce plausible but incorrect information, and we apply the same rigour to verifying AI output as we would to any other source.
  • No AI-generated opinion: Opinion and commentary pieces reflect genuine human perspectives. AI may assist with research, structure, or drafting, but the views expressed must authentically belong to the attributed author.

5. Source Verification and Attribution

  • Primary sources are preferred over secondary sources wherever available.
  • When a claim is based on a single source, this should be stated. We aim for multiple-source verification for all significant claims.
  • Anonymous sources may be used when the information is of genuine public interest, the source faces a credible risk of harm from identification, and the information has been corroborated. The editor must approve the use of any anonymous source.
  • We attribute and link to original reporting by other publications rather than rewriting their scoops without credit.
  • Data, statistics, and research findings must be sourced from the original study or dataset, not from secondary media reports about the study.

6. Corrections, Updates, and Retractions

We take accuracy seriously. When we get something wrong, we fix it — quickly and visibly.

  • Corrections: When a factual error is identified, we correct the article and add a note stating what was changed and when. For material corrections, the note appears at the top of the article.
  • Updates: When a story develops and new information becomes available, we update the article and note the update with a timestamp. We do not remove previous reporting unless it has been shown to be inaccurate.
  • Retractions: In rare cases where an article is found to be fundamentally flawed — based on fabricated sources, plagiarised content, or unsupportable claims — the article is retracted. A retraction notice replaces the original content, explaining why the article was withdrawn.
  • Silent edits: We do not silently alter published articles in ways that change their meaning. Minor changes (typos, formatting) may be made without notice, but any change to substance, framing, or conclusions is disclosed.

7. Sponsored Content, Advertising, and Affiliates

We maintain a clear boundary between editorial content and commercial content:

  • Sponsored content is clearly labelled with a visible "Sponsored" or "Paid Partnership" tag. It is produced or reviewed by a separate commercial content team. While it must meet our standards for factual accuracy, it may reflect the perspective or messaging of the sponsor.
  • Affiliate links are clearly disclosed. When an article contains affiliate links, a notice is placed at the beginning or end of the article. Affiliate relationships never influence editorial decisions about what products or services to cover or recommend.
  • Advertising is visually distinct from editorial content. We do not publish advertorials that could be mistaken for independent editorial work.
  • Product reviews and recommendations are based on genuine evaluation and editorial judgement. We do not guarantee positive coverage in exchange for products, access, or payment.

8. User-Generated Content and Comments

Where user-generated content (comments, letters, reader submissions) is published, it is subject to moderation. We reserve the right to remove content that is defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, spam, or otherwise violates our community guidelines. User-generated content does not represent the views of ANewsTime.
